Coming Back

The Work

Created for the Nanhai Art Festival, “Coming Back” is a film that assembles a collective portrait of Nanhai and Foshan in the Lingnan region of south-east China through conversations with people from different generations and walks of life.

Directed by Felicitas Yang and co-directed by Armando Milano, the film is constructed from animated sequences of black-and-white 35mm photographs, interspersed with occasional color stills. Occupying a space between photography and cinema, and accompanied by a soundscape drawn from the everyday sounds and voices of the region, the work invites attention to the rhythms of place, memory, and the passage of time.

The Festival

17 July 2026 – 3 January 2027

The Nanhai Land Art Festival (Art in Qiaoshan) is a large-scale site-specific contemporary art festival held across 11 art zones in Nanhai, in China's Lingnan region. Spread throughout villages, waterways, historic sites, and industrial heritage landscapes, the 2026 edition introduces several new venues, including the former Nanhai Silk Factory.
